HALF DAY COURSE 09:30AM – 1:00PM
This half day Refresher digital photography course is aimed at students who have perhaps already attended a Beginners Course in photography (either at Lacock Photography or elsewhere), but are still not quite sure of the relationship between aperture, shutter & ISO – the key vital components required for that perfect exposure. Alternatively, you may have some knowledge of photography through self-study or have experience in film photography and would like the opportunity to put it all into practice with the guidance and support of a photography tutor.
You are probably using your camera in aperture or shutter priority. The course will ensure that you are completely in charge when using these modes, so much better than using auto! This half day course is not recommended for the complete beginner who is currently shooting in auto mode – our one day Beginners Course is highly recommended for the complete beginner!
Understanding what camera settings to use is a fundamental step in improving the photos you take. You will learn how to take control of your camera and how to get that great shot. We will build your confidence and improve your ability to get the most from your camera. Don’t miss this great opportunity to develop your skills! With a maximum of 4 students on the course the venue provides the perfect environment to understand how to get the shot you want.
The Refresher digital photography course is a mixture of classroom-based tutorials, practical demonstrations and hands on practice with your own camera. The course will be run in our school of photography in the heart of Lacock and includes a photo shoot. You will go out about in the village and receive some one-to-one coaching from Fiona, our tutor.
After the photo-shoot, you will return to ‘The Old Clubhouse’ to download and review your images in Photoshop Elements. We limit the course to a maximum of 4 students to enable the tutor to help everyone individually.
On this course, we provide you with essential photography knowledge coupled with the practical skills of digital photography to enable you to improve the quality of the photo-graphs you take.
By using your own camera during the course (if you don’t have one yet we can lend you one for the day!), you will get to know its features better and be able to use more of them to get the images you want.
On the course, we will concentrate on the essentials
• f stops, shutter speeds and ISO
• Exposure compensation
Assistance will be given to set up your camera with all the necessary options e.g. metering, white balance, jpeg quality etc.
The Tutor – Fiona Turnbull
Fiona has been in love with photography since her very early days growing up in Glasgow. Fiona clearly remembers her first camera, a Kodak Instamatic and how great it felt when she bought an Olympus Trip when she was 16! Fiona has developed her skills through self-study, attending courses at local colleges & training providers – alongside lots of practice and deletion of images!
In 2011, Fiona and her husband Andy set up a new photography business located in Lacock, the “Birthplace of Photography”. One of the few photography training schools to own its own purpose-built premises, the business has grown year on year to become one of the UK’s leading providers of photography training. Fiona is an experienced tutor who specialises in developing and encouraging students who are at the start of their photographic journey.
Fiona has a wide range of photographic interests and is particularly keen on people, animals, flowers and nature photography. In addition to delivering photography training, Fiona regularly presents external talks on compositional techniques & flower photography.
