About the Course

Understanding what camera settings to use, is a fundamental step in improving the photos you take. You will learn how to take control of your camera and how to get that great shot. You are probably using your camera in full auto or in a scene mode e.g. portrait or landscape; you will be amazed how much your photos will improve in one day by coming on this course!

We will build your confidence and improve your ability to get the most from your camera. Don’t miss this great opportunity to develop your skills! With a maximum of 4 students on the course the venue provides the perfect environment to understand better how to get the shot you want.

This course is a mixture of classroom-based tutorials, practical demonstrations and hands on practice with your own camera. The course will be run in our school of photography in the heart of Lacock – (Photography was invented in Lacock Abbey!).

In the afternoon of the  beginners digital photography course  (Part 1) you will go out about in Lacock village with Fiona, the tutor, to practice and receive some one to one coaching. After the photo-shoot you will return to ‘The Old Clubhouse’ to review your images.

Course Content

On this course we provide you with essential photography knowledge coupled with the practical skills of digital photography to enable you to improve the quality of the photographs you take.

By using your own camera during the course (if you don’t have one yet we can lend you one for the day!), you will get to know its features better and be able to use more of them to get the pictures you want.

On the course we will cover: camera equipment & accessories, image quality (ISO & File formats), focusing & metering modes, f stops, shutter speeds and ISO, exposure compensation, white balance, basic composition and downloading images from camera to computer.

The Need To Knows

We run this course several times every month, mainly at weekends and Fridays. We get booked up pretty quickly as we have a maximum number of 4 students on each course. The small class size is important to us as we know how much individual support is required!

We aim to start at 10:00 am so ask you to arrive from 9:45am. The day ends at around 4:30pm.

We ask that you bring your own refreshments and packed lunch along with your camera with memory card and fully charged battery.  If you don’t have a camera – no worries, we can lend you one free of charge!
