Photographing flying birds is one of the most challenging genres of photography and also one of the most satisfying when you capture the perfect flying bird image! This workshop is for a maximum of two students – so plenty of coaching by Fiona throughout the day!
The workshop is held at the magnificent Hawk Conservancy Trust near Andover. Set within 22 acres of stunning countryside, the Hawk Conservancy Trust is an award-winning attraction which has world-class flying displays throughout the day.
The Flying Bird Workshop is a 1-day course, from 09.30am (at the Hawk Conservancy Trust) to 4:30pm. You will need to bring your camera with a memory card, fully charged battery and a spare battery. The workshop is limited to 2 students and starts and ends at The Hawk Conservancy Trust. The cost of the venue ticket is included.
A telephoto lens (around 300-500mm) would work well. A waterproof rain cover is recommended (just in case!).
To get the most out of the day, students will already need to know basic control of aperture, shutter speed and ISO and understand how these settings interact. These skills are taught on our Beginners Part 1 & Beginners Part 2 workshops.
Fiona is an experienced tutor who specialises in helping students master the technical aspects of their photography. The tutor, Fiona Turnbull is an experienced wildlife photographer, specialising in British animals and birds. Fiona has recently achieved an ARPS in Natural History from the Royal Photographic Society.
Fiona has been in love with photography since her very early days growing up in Glasgow. Fiona clearly remembers her first camera, a Kodak Instamatic and how great it felt when she bought an Olympus Trip when she was 16! Fiona has developed her skills through self-study, attending courses at local colleges & training providers – alongside lots of practice and deletion of images!
Fiona has a keen interest in wildlife and nature photography, have a browse through her latest photos on Instagram.
